After all the hype that has built up, we can finally reveal what we know about the 2017 Porsche 911 Carrera. There are relatively few updates, but they are significant nonetheless, from exterior to interior to the now-turbocharged engine.
Release Date of 2017 Porsche 911 Carrera
The release date is most likely late 2016 or early 2017, but don’t hold us to our word on that; there is still a lot of work to be done.
2017 Porsche 911 Carrera Price
The base model for the 2017 Porsche 911 Carrera is most likely going to go for $90,000. Of course, there will be plenty of trimmings, additional equipment and most likely fees and other expenses, but that is the ballpark for you.
Exterior
Unfortunately (or not), the overall external layout of the new Carrera is going to remain largely the same. There is a new front bumper with its own air intake and a slightly revised set of taillights and headlamps with four-point lights for driving during the day.
Other than that, the handles and the rims are slightly revised, but that is about it. Oh, and there is a new rear deck lid, and the body is a few centimeters lower than it used to be.
Porsche 911 Carrera Interior
The interior of the new Carrera is going to feature more updates in terms of technology used that design, so the overall layout is not going to change much.
Of course, the biggest thing is the Porsche Communication Management system complete with its own navigation. You use it just like you would use a Smartphone, via a 7-inch display and it can even recognize handwriting, to an extent.
Absolute connectivity is the norm, including USBs, Smartphones and iPhones (via Apple’s own CarPlay). It also gives you real-time information about traffic, maps and other important data other than those pertaining to the actual car itself.
That is what the improved instrument cluster and gauges are for, among other things. The steering wheel can be updated via an optional Sport Chrono package enabling you a choice between several driving modes meaning you can adjust engine and handling settings on your car by pushing a button. The rest is what you would come to expect of a Porsche, in terms of upholstery and color options.
Engine of Porsche 911 Carrera
Without a doubt, the most significant update of the 2017 Porsche 911 Carrera concerns the engine variety. The engine it uses is no longer naturally aspirated but a turbocharged 3.0 L unit with six cylinders, 420 hp, 368 lb-ft of torque, modified compressor wheels and a specially designed exhaust system.
Furthermore, the engine is managed in an entirely different manner as well. You know what this means? It means improved fuel consumption over the old 22 miles per gallon combined, although we are not sure about the extent, as the data are still confidential on that front.
Maybe 30 mpg on a highway and 22 in the city? The transmission is a 6-speed manual, and this beauty can reach from 0 to 60 mph in 4.4 seconds and top it off at 182 mph. And that is just the basic trim.
