As the first – ever sedan for Toyota’s Scion brand, the Scion iA was debuted at the 2015 New York Auto Show, derived from the fourth – generation of Mazda Demio/Mazda 2. Since the Scion lineup really needed some freshening up, the 2016 Toyota Scion iA, in addition to the equally new the 2016 Scion iM, will be the desperate needed breath of fresh wind.
The goals for the new Scion was to become stylish, affordable and efficient subcompact sedan and although there are some unknown details, this model looks like a very promising small car.
2016 Scion iA exterior design
Except the front fascia and headlights, the new Scion is identical to the Mazda2 sedan. The influence of Mazda’s design are visiable on the wheels, the swoopy wheel arches, but the difference is noticeable in that aggressive look of front fascia.
Since it is assumed that Mazda’s smallest sedan won’t be sold in North America and if you want a four – door version of the next-gen Mazda2, you will have to visit your local Toyota/Scion dealership.
Interior design of 2016 Toyota Scion iA
The same story is inside of the 2016 Toyota Scion iA. Most of the things are carryover from the Mazda2 hatchback, but it isn’t necessarily a bad thing. The premium features inside the cabin like the center display screen, give to it a more upscale feel. There is also the three-spoke steering wheel and the three-pod gauge cluster and they give the cabin a sporty look.
The main differences between the iA and the U.S. – spec Mazda2 are rear seats and luggage department, because the iA offers split folding rear seats. Looking at the recent Mazda products, the next-generation of the Mazda2 and this Scion sedan they should have a lot of space.
Well, if you look interior and exterior design there is a lot of proof that this is a real sport sedan, but if we take a look under the hood this claim just doesn’t fit. The Scion iA takes the powertrain of the 2016 Mazda2 and it comes with a 1,5 – liter four – cylinder engine. This one can produce 106 hp. The company will offer a six-speed automatic or a six-speed manual transmission. The fuel economy should be rating at 33 mpg city and 42 mpg highway.
2016 Toyota Scion iA Price
Final pricing has not been revealed yet, but the Scion says that this model will start in the $16,000 range. This model will be more expensive than the others it rivals, but the company will offer a lot of standard equipment to warrant the price. Some of the standard equipment will be multi – media with a 7 – inch display screen, a Low – Speed Pre – Collision safety system, push – button start and more.
Althought this model doesn’t have much originality and it’s very hard to separate it from the Mazda2, the 2016 Scion iA is a very stylish subcompact sedan and it has top fuel economy in the segment. Also, no hassle pricing is one more thing why it could be a better choice than the hatchback Mazda. So, if we take into consideration the sentence from the top of the article, it seems that the company has achieved their goals. This car is a stylish, afforable and efficient subcompact sedan.
