2016 Lexus GS F is the ultimate performance version of GS mid-size sedan introduced, for the first time, at this year’s Detroit Auto Show. Unlike most of its future competitors, GS F offers something different. People in Lexus figured that even luxury performance cars could benefit from downsized engines and decided to try the concept. How will it go, remains to be seen.
2016 Lexus GS F Review
However, some would say that 5.0L normally aspirated V8 engine isn’t actually downsized, and they would be right, to some extent. It returns 467 horsepower and 389 pound feet of torque which is still way far behind the figures that its competitors return, but fuel savings aren’t exactly high.
Rear-wheel drive and 8-speed automatic gearbox have been carried over from smaller RC F coupe, together with the engine and we wonder: “Will Lexus start doing this on a regular basis”?
Even though 2016 Lexus GS F is larger than RC F, engineers managed to keep its weight in more than reasonable margins. It is only 100 pounds or so heavier than the coupe which makes it such a good performer.
Moreover, it looks much better than rest of GS lineup which is soon bound for refresh. Heavy spindle grille and thin, angular headlights with sharp lightning accessories are part of Lexus’ new design language which should be carried over to most of the lineup in near future.
Around the back, things look the same; just great. GS F has perfectly chiseled overhang with lots of flair, and promises to be one of the most-sought vehicles in Toyota’s luxury division, at least design-wise.
Lexus GS F Interior
There aren’t many differences between this car’s interior and regular GS’s interior. Cabin basically remained the same, with different accents and upholstery, though. 2016 Lexus GS F features perforated leather seats and suede touches around the cabin with similar dashboard covers.
Dash has kept 12.3-inch wide touch screen display which takes most of its space and allows the use of many features this car possesses. Among them are Lexus Enform system, Siri EyesFree, HD Radio and 15-minute buffer feature for it. Audio can be enjoyed through premium Mark Levinson 18-speaker sound system which generates 835 watts of active power.
Safety features include a rearview camera, parking sensors, pre-collision warning system, blind-spot monitors and lane-departure warning.
Engine of Lexus GS F 2016
2016 Lexus GS F shouldn’t be much less fuel-efficient than the RC F coupe. After all, they share the same powertrain and have, roughly, the same weight. This means that around 15 mpg in the city and 24 mpg on the highway should be achieved without any problems. Last thing that remains is its price tag.
Since current GS lineup easily reaches almost $70,000 mark, we don’t expect RC F to be offered for less.
2016 Lexus RC F looks much better than its current siblings and represents their future at the same time. Sporty sedan doesn’t offer as high power output as its competitors do, but still gives you high performance and exquisite refinement. This is a fine addition to Lexus’ lineup and promises to be quite inspiring to drive.
