Although there is still plenty of time until the new 2016 BMW 1-Series hit the car salons, from what we can see here, the new 1 series is ready to go, whenever you are. Quite a few spy shots have made it to the Internet and quite a few complementary renderings, which make true fans mre impatient than ever, especially because the new BMW looks amazing – much better than any of its predecessors.
Exterior of BMW 1-series
As far as the interior is concerned, much has changed since the previous generation. Starting with the front, the new 1 series features a new set of freshly designed headlights, featuring a more flat and angular geometry and are somewhat similar in design as the headlights found on the BMW’s 2 series.
Full LED headlights are available as an option, as well as the new Adaptive LED lights that can adjust its illuminating path by following the corners, allowing for a much safer driving experience.
The new model features a set of a narrower kidney grills, as well as a redesigned front bumper, compared to the previous model. Not much of the back is changed, except for the new tailights, which now have an added extension on the trunk lid and they feature a new LED pattern.
BMW 1-series Interior
The interior of the new 2016 BMW 1-series hasn’t been revamped much compared to the previous model. Subtle differences do make the car look and feel more luxurious, such as the clever use of new materials, but the idea behind the interior is pretty much the same.
The new model features a newly designed three spoke steering wheel, featuring a much thinner spikes, a 6.5 inches LCD display, located at the same place as before, with the HVAC vents distributed the same way as in the previous model – 2 on the center, below the LCD and two on the each side. Buttons and switches are well thought out and easily accessible.
2016 BMW 1 Series Engine and Platform
The new 2016 BMW 1 series will feature the UKL platform, shared by both Mini Cooper and BMW 2 series Active Tourer. Although not confirmed, the new 1 series will have a three and four cylinder engine versions to choose from, which would make the new model on of the most fuel efficient in its class.
The new turbocharged 1.5 liter 3 cylinder engine is capable of generating 109 hp with a peak torque of 180 Nm and is able to go from 0 to 62 in 10.9 s. The 1.6 liter 4 cylinder engine is said to have a maximum of 177 hp and 250 Nm of torque, capable of pushing the car from 0 to 62 in 7.4 seconds.
The 2.0 liter inline 4 will be the most powerful 4 cylinder engine, which is capable of delivering a max output of 218 hp and a total torque of 310 Nm. As for transmissions, an 8 speed automatic and a 6 speed manual will be provided as options.
Price for BMW 1 series 2016
Although not yet confirmed, the new BMW 1 series will hit the car salons in 2016 and it’s estimated to start at around $30,000 for the base model.
