Jaguar released the XE a while ago but so far they didn’t offer a high performance version of the car. They do have the XE S on the market with plenty of power but this can’t really match most of its rivals. Because of that we all knew they were going to release at some point a much more powerful version of the car, especially considering its highly capable chassis. Well, the Jaguar XE SV Project 8 has just been announced, a limited edition model set to outrun all of its rivals. However, the car will only be built in 300 units and it seems it will only be sold in the UK. Don’t despair though because if the past is anything to go by, a production version of the same car will be released at a later date but slightly tamed.
The SV Project 8 is an SVO designed, and made, car, so it is not the regular SVR most people were expecting. Luckily enough Jaguar’s CEO did say that if the reaction to the Project 8 is positive they will consider building a more powerful production model.
However, for the moment the Project 8 will be built in just 300 units and it is set to cost a rather impressive £135,000, considerably more than the usual 500 horsepower sedan. However, this is actually in line with other limited production cars so it all evens out.
Even though the Jaguar XE SV Project 8 has been showcased wearing a good amount of camouflage, the details on the car are still quite visible. For starters, it seems the car will feature a set of 3 lines that will run across it with a much wider center line. On the front doors it will feature stickers with the Project 8 name and that’s about the only confirmed design cue. However, the camouflaged car also revealed a few interesting quirks.
For starters, it is considerably wider than the regular XE. The wheel arches in the back are at least 2 inches wider which could suggest much wider tires as well. The car also features a massive fixed wing, a different hood, a large front splitter as well as a quad-exhaust flanking a massive diffuser. So far it seems that there will be a limited amount of colors to choose from which would make sense considering the past Project 7.
Jaguar XE SV Project 8 Interior
Unfortunately the interior of the Jaguar XE SV Project 8 has been kept a secret up to this point. Despite that it is safe to assume it won’t be much different from the regular XE sedan. There is going to be a much nicer set of seats as well as a slightly different steering wheel. The car is also likely going to receive quilted leather which was also used on the Project 7.
Under the hood
The Jaguar XE SV Project 8 features the engine all of us wanted to see under the hood of the regular XE. It has a 5.0 liter supercharged V8 petrol engine capable of pushing out as much as 592 horsepower. This is more than in pretty much any other application of this engine which is quite impressive. So far Jaguar hasn’t released any performance figures or even any other details about this particular powertrain. However, it is safe to assume it will make north of 550 lb-ft of torque and that all of the power will be sent to the rear wheels via a limited slip differential.
Likely the only available gearbox on the car will be Jaguar’s 8 speed automatic which would be able to handle all that torque and power. The engine should be more than capable of getting the car to 60 MPH in under 4 seconds and up to a top speed north of 200 MPH. The best part about all that performance is the fact that the car won’t be good just in a straight line. Considering all the exterior modifications we can easily assume it also boasts running gear improvements. It likely has a wider rear track due to better components. The brakes are also much larger than on the regular car and it seems that Jaguar is looking to release the quickest sedan on the market to date.
