The XE is Jaguar’s entry-level executive sedan which has been around for a while at this point. The car received a small update this year and it seems it will get another soon enough. With the new update a new model is going to be revealed with the 2018 Jaguar XE SVR.
Even though the car hasn’t been confirmed by Jaguar, the SVR was seen testing not that long ago wearing heavy camouflage. From the development mule we can see a few interesting quirks of the car. For starters, it won’t be that different, at least in terms of design, from the XE. In fact the current XE S seems to be quite close to the future SVR which is quite interesting.
What is it?
The SVR will become the XE’s flagship trim level which is set to come with the most amount of power and features among all other versions of the car. In order to cope with the added power the SVR will also receive quite a few improvements inside and out.
For starters, the car’s entire running gear will more than likely be heavily revised. Expect different shocks and springs and more than likely larger brakes. Even though the test mule didn’t feature carbon-ceramics, it is safe to assume Jaguar will offer them at least as an optional extra. The car will also be lighter than the other versions thanks to a carbon fiber roof and possibly a hood. These alone should save north of
2018 Jaguar XE SVR Engine
The current range-topping model sports a 3.0 liter supercharged V6. The 2018 Jaguar XE SVR is set to receive a 5.0 liter supercharged V8 which will likely offer close to 500 horsepower and 500 lb-ft of torque. In fact with this engine the XE might become the most powerful car in its class which is not an easy feat to achieve. While we would love a manual gearbox, it is highly unlikely.
Instead the car will more than likely receive ZF’s already well known 8 speed automatic which should drive the rear wheels on the base model. An all wheel drive system is a real possibility considering its main rivals. The performance numbers haven’t been revealed for now. However, expect it to get to 60 MPH in less than 4.0 seconds and go up to a maximum top speed well over the usual limit of 155 MPH.
The camouflaged test mule doesn’t reveal all that much in terms of the finished looks of the 2018 Jaguar XE SVR. However, the car gives us a few hints. In the back a new quad-tipped exhaust system seems to have been installed. This will more than likely feature active flaps in order to give the driver a choice of how loud he wants the car to be. On top of that the bumper seems all new.
We expect here a subtle diffuser in order to cope with the car’s much higher top speed than that of the regular model. A rear wing is highly unlikely but we wouldn’t be surprised to see one in the future. In the front it seems the XE SVR gets a new bumper with a much larger splitter and likely a new grille. On the sides there are new side-skirts as well as larger wheels.
Jaguar XE SVR 2018 Inside the cabin
Here the SVR will be mostly identical to the ongoing S version. While the dashboard and most of the equipment will be the same, the SVR is expected to receive slightly better bolstered seats.
On top of that the car may receive a new flat-bottom steering wheel similar to that of the F-Type. The base model will likely get suede upholstery while real leather might be offered in an optional package.
