The first generation of the Figo was showcased in India in 2009 and it was basically a 2002 Fiesta with some design changes. The car released back in 2015 under the same name is nothing like that. Instead of being just another Fiesta, the new 2018 Ford Figo is actually an entirely new car. It shares most of its platform with the Fiesta but it is smaller and designed to be a cheap alternative to it. So far the car is sold in India and a few other countries where it starts at just under the equivalent of $6,800 and it goes up to nearly $10,000. This is a lot cheaper than the Fiesta without having to compromise on much, if anything.
The car – a closer look
Even though it is quite new, it is expected to receive an update with the 2018 Ford Figo. It seems that this update will mostly solve some of the issues of the current car while adding a few nicer features for the interior.
Most of these will allow it to compete with its rivals and it should also make a great alternative for those who usually look at the entry level models of the Fiesta and its competitors. The release date for the new car is still unknown but most expect it by the end of 2017.
2018 Ford Figo interior
Likely the most important part about the 2018 Ford Figo is going to be its cabin. Why? Well, most of the cars in this price range are usually dull and not that well equipped. The current Figo is none of that. It offers a really modern feel and a good amount of options.
The 2018 model should improve on that even further. For starters, the MyFord Dock will become a standard feature which will allow the driver to use a smart-phone just like a car’s infotainment system. However, the top end models will replace the basic 2DIN audio system with a touch-screen unit.
This will likely be based on the Sync2 or 3 and it should be a great upgrade. The AC system as well as the electric windows will become a standard feature across the range.
The current Figo looks great for its class. The car is smaller than a Fiesta but it does come with its unique proportions which make it look good. The Fusion-based front end with the large headlights as well as the Focus-inspired rear end are here to stay.
We might see a design package for the car later down the road in order to allow people to customize it to their own liking. However, this has not been confirmed so far but things might change in the upcoming months.
There are three available powertrains for the current car and the 2018 Ford Figo will likely not change much. The base model will get a 1.2 liter naturally aspirated inline 4 offering 88 horsepower and 112 Nm of torque.
The Titanium will also get a 1.5 liter inline 4 with 112 horsepower and 136 Nm of torque which will be mated to a six speed dual-clutch gearbox. The 1.5 liter diesel will only be available with the 5 speed manual and it will continue to make 100 horsepower and 215 Nm of torque which is actually more than the engine found in the Fiesta.
The diesel will be a nearly-$1,500 option but thanks to its fuel consumption, it might be worth it for some people. With this update, the car should also receive the ABS system as standard.
This was previously available on the top end versions and it made the car lose some customers against some of its rivals which offered a lot more safety features on their base models.
