2020 Ford Bronco – finally confirmed by Ford!
The Ford Bronco has been made for three decades at the Michigan Truck Plant in Wayne. However, Ford decided to discontinue the model 20 years ago in order to replace it with the more modern Expedition. Throughout the year, the Expedition became a much larger, and currently more expensive (see 2018 Ford Expedition spy photos), SUV which means Ford has been left with a gap in their roster. The 2018 Ford Bronco has been rumored to fill this gap for a very long time but up until recently Ford dismissed most of these rumors. A couple of weeks back though, after being heavily criticized by a politician for moving the production into Mexico for a few of their models, a spokesperson said something very interesting.
2020 Ford Bronco Release date
The UAW representative said that people are not going to lose their jobs because they will continue to make two models, the Bronco and the Ranger. This finally confirms that Ford will in fact bring the two models in the US. However, even though the two have been confirmed, there is still very little information about them. The Bronco is expected to be a two or four door crossover but that’s all it is to it so far.
The price is unknown and the release date is missing as well. We do know that Ford is aiming directly at the Toyota 4Runner and the Jeep Wrangler which means a price hovering around $30,000, at least for the four door model. The release will likely be close to 2018, at the same time with the new Ranger.
Will it be able to match its competitors
Like we said, cars like the Wrangler and the 4Runner will compete directly with Ford’s new crossover. In order to be successful, the 2018 Ford Bronco will have to tick in a few boxes. For starters, the car will have to look on par with its competition. This means that Ford will likely not be able to use their “Edge” design on it.
Instead, we, like many others, expect the car to feature a modern-classic exterior which will be loosely based on that of the original. Like many renders suggested, the Bronco should offer the classic round headlights but with modern touches such as LED lights and quite a bit of modern influences. At this point it seems that the two door model will represent the bulk of sales but this might change when the car will be released.
Inside the cabin of new Ford Bronco
No matter what version people will choose, the 2018 Ford Bronco will offer five seats. The difference will be that the two-door model will offer a slightly smaller trunk and it will make access to the rear seats a bit harder.
The materials will not be on the same level with those found on a premium crossover. These will have to be durable and easy to clean considering that the Bronco will most likely be used by those looking to go in off-road with it. The equipment level as well as most of the design might be carried over from the Ranger.
2018 Ford Bronco Engine
Just like its truck counterpart, the Bronco will likely receive three different engines for the US market. The base one will get an inline 4 turbocharged petrol engine which will displace either 2 or 2.3 liters. This should offer around 250 horsepower and 300 lb-ft of torque.
Further up the range it still is unclear if Ford will offer their 2.7 liter twin-turbo V6 or a larger naturally aspirated V6. Both should provide right around 325 horsepower and between 300 and over 350 lb-ft of torque for the smaller engine. The top end model is actually expected to get a diesel.
This would be Ford’s new 3.2 liter inline 5 which has been around for some time in the European Ranger. This engine has been first used in the US on the Transit back in 2015 and it should be quite easy to be adapted to the Ranger platform considering it originated on the T6 Ranger.
