When it was launched in 2012 the F12B managed to stun everyone with the performance it had. However, the car was getting dated so a new model has been expected for a while now. Well, the 2018 Ferrari 812 Superfast has just been released at the Geneva Auto Show and it is as impressive as we expected. Even though this is a new model, it still uses the same chassis as the F12. This means it shares the same wheelbase and it has a very similar size. Because of that, it also looks quite similar to the F12 but Ferrari made a lot of changes in order to improve the aerodynamic capabilities of the new 812.
Most other revamped Ferrari cars lately changed their naturally aspirated engine to a turbocharged powertrain. Luckily this is not the case with the 812 but more on that a bit later. The running gear, most of the bodywork as well as the interior are all new though.
Also, the 812 should be one of Ferrari’s fastest cars to date thanks to its incredible amount of available downforce and mechanical grip which should both allow it to out-corner most other cars out there. The price hasn’t been revealed but it is likely going to cost roughly the same as the F12. Like their other models, the 812 will only be available to those selected by Ferrari so its price is bound to increase in the future.
2018 Ferrari 812 Superfast Engine
The older 6.3 liter V12 has been replaced by a larger 6.5 liter naturally aspirated V12. This offers a rather impressive 789 horsepower and 530 lb-ft of torque. The power is available at a rather impressive 8,500 rpm and the engine will go up to nearly 9,000 rpm. Even though it lacks torque when compared to a turbocharged unit, it offers a linear power curve as well as one of the best soundtracks ever to be heard from a car.
The engine routes all of its power to the rear wheels via a 7 speed dual-clutch gearbox which also happens to be one of the fastest ever installed into a production car. With it, the 2018 Ferrari 812 Superfast should be able to hit 60 MPH in under 2.9 seconds with a maximum top speed north of 212 MPH. Even though there are faster cars in a straight line, it should be capable of outrunning most of them thanks to its incredible running gear.
While it looks stunning, the 2018 Ferrari 812 Superfast sports this design because it had to. Ferrari spent an incredible amount of time doing wind testing in order to come up with likely the best aerodynamic profile among any other car on the market. Its front end sports a couple of NACA ducts that route air towards the underside of the car.
The front grille divides the air stream into cooling for its brakes as well as for the radiators. The splitter can adjust depending on the speed and angle of the steering wheel. The car’s side is cleaner than before but in the back it features a rather impressive amount of aerodynamic features. There is a large rear diffuser which is active. The tail lights are covered by the bodywork in order to minimize wind turbulence and make it go faster.
2018 Ferrari 812 Superfast Interior
Even though this is a hyper-car, the 812 offers a minimalist cabin. The usual Ferrari steering wheel is still there with most of the controls on it.
The air vents and all of the buttons are made out of aluminum while the actual dashboard is simple featuring a minimal amount of buttons. However, it does sport an LCD screen in front of the passenger that displays information about the car.
