The Corvette is the original American super car which has been released for the 1953 model year. This means that this year marks 65 years since the first Corvette rolled off the production line. In order to commemorate the occasion GM is going to release a special edition of the car with the 2018 Chevrolet Corvette Carbon 65 Edition. This is reminiscent of the 1953 Corvette and it is only going to be available in 650 units. The car will actually be sold as a special edition package which is going to cost $15,000. The package will be available on both the mid-spec Grand Sport and on the Z06 trim levels.
The largest changes for this special edition models are on the outside. However, like the name suggests, carbon fiber will be the main motif with it, so expect it inside and out.
The rest of the car on the other hand will remain mostly unchanged which is rather surprising. It will receive the same basic trim level as the car it will be based on and it will offer the same amount of performance. This type of special edition model is not new in the car world but for $15,000 extra we would have expected a bit more.
2018 Chevrolet Corvette Carbon 65 Edition design
First of all, the 2018 Chevrolet Corvette Carbon 65 Edition is going to be available with an all new color choice. The Ceramic Matrix Gray will replace a current shade of blue and it is going to be available for this special edition model. The car will also boast blue-painted calipers as well as blue stickers on the front fenders.
On top of the color scheme the new edition of the Corvette will come with carbon fiber… a lot of carbon fiber. All the exterior inserts will be replaced with carbon fiber such as the rear diffuser, rear spoiler, fender ducts, front grille and hood inserts. Even the front splitter will be made out of carbon fiber which actually makes the $15,000 price tag quite good.
Inside the cabin
Not much will change here over the Grand Sport or the Z06. The Carbon 65 will come with standard Competition seats which are going to be upholstered in Jet Black Alcantara. Both the steering wheel as well as the sill kick plates will be covered in carbon fiber in order to continue the trend. Besides these upgrades there won’t be any other changes over the regular models. However, Chevrolet will add a plaque with the car’s numbers, so this is going to be a truly limited edition model.
Any performance upgrades?
The short answer would be no but the 2018 Chevrolet Corvette Carbon 65 Edition will be slightly different from the rest. For starters Chevrolet is going to give customers the chance to get the optional carbon-ceramic brakes without having to buy the Z07 Performance package. On top of that, the magnetic-controlled suspension system will be available in a similar manner which makes the 65 rather special.
In terms of engines, it all depends on the base model. If the buyer gets the Grand Sport then the Carbon 65 will come with the naturally aspirated 6.2 liter V8. This will offer 460 horsepower and 465 lb-ft of torque all sent to the rear wheels via a 7 speed manual or an 8 speed automatic. The Z06 on the other hand will come with the 6.2 liter supercharged V8 which will boost the output to 650 horsepower and 650 lb-ft of torque. Considering this is a limited edition version, it is safe to assume most people are going to go for the supercharged version of the Corvette in order to maintain the car’s value for longer.
