The M3 is no slouch offering 425 horsepower and a 0 to 60 MPH time of just 4.0 seconds. However, the car has been around for a while and on top of that it is based on an old design. The 3 Series, on which the M3 is based, has been around for more than 6 years at this point so the M3 is nearing the end of its life. Until then though it looks like a new version is going to be released with the 2018 BMW M3 CS. The specifics about this model is still unknown for now but it looks like the car is going to be a rather big upgrade over the current model. It is also going to be the most powerful, and likely the fastest, M3 to date.
For now it seems the new CS will boast a few performance upgrades over the regular model as well as a few interior and exterior changes. However, the core design of the car is not going to change much. On top of that it looks like most of the suspension system and the brakes will be carried over from the Performance Package version of the M3. Expect it to boast massive 6-piston brakes in the front and 4-piston brakes in the rear, large 19 inch rims wrapped in high performance street tires as well as adaptive dampers with stiffer than usual springs.
The end result should be a considerably faster car around corners but its straight-line performance is not going to be affected by much. The price is unknown for now. Despite that, considering the base model starts at nearly $65,000, it is safe to assume the upcoming 2018 BMW M3 CS might start at north of $100,000. While this is a massive increase, it is more than likely considering the M4 CS is more than $50,000 more expensive than the regular M4 while not adding much value over it. The price increase would likely mean the car is going to be a limited edition model which is bound to increase its value over time.
BMW didn’t release any official pictures or even renders for the upcoming CS. Despite that, they did release the M4 CS and it seems the M3 will be mostly based on this. Thanks to that we can safely assume the car is going to boast a carbon fiber hood and a roof.
The car will get a large front splitter, made out of carbon fiber, as well as a larger diffuser. There will be larger intakes in the front bumper as well as in the rear while on the hood the new CS will feature heat extractors in order to keep its engine as cool as possible. The car will also get a subtle rear wing which is said to add a bit of stability at high speed but that should be it.
2018 BMW M3 CS interior
There shouldn’t be that many changes over the regular model. Instead, expect the 2018 BMW M3 CS to get exactly the same seats as those in the new M4 CS.
These offer considerably larger leather-padded bolsters than on the regular model as well as Alcantara upholstery in order to give the driver, and its passengers, more stability. The car is likely going to receive the same Alcantara-wrapped steering wheel and the same M-colored accents on the seat-belts and on the headrests.
What will power it?
The 2018 BMW M3 CS will more than likely feature the same 3.0 liter twin-turbocharged gasoline inline-six engine that can be currently found on the M3 and M4. However, this time around the S55 powertrain will receive a few upgrades so it should make up to 454 horsepower and as much as 443 lb-ft of torque which is a considerable upgrade over the regular model. The M4 CS is not available with a manual so it is safe to assume the sedan is not going to be either. This means the M3 CS will get a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic as its only gearbox which is a bit of a shame as it robs away the driving pleasure from some people. Luckily this gearbox is one of the best on the market and it should be more than capable to allow the M3 CS to get to 60 MPH as fast as its two-door sibling.
