The newest model of the XC90 has been launched back in 2014 as a 2015 model so it is a very recent car. Despite the fact of being so new, it managed to get many people liking it thanks to its great engine choices, amazing exterior which manages to be the perfect blend between luxurious and restrained and a very nice interior. However, the car is missing something from the mix, a high performance version which would finally allow Volvo to go head to head with cars such as the BMW X5 M or even the upcoming Q7 S.The upcoming 2017 Volvo XC90 Polestar would make use of the same platform as the current model but the engineers from Volvo’s high performance division are going to upgrade most things on the car.
Firstly, the new XC90 Polestar is expected to receive an all new running gear with air shocks that will allow the driver to precisely control the way the car behaves on the road.
2017 Volvo XC90 Polestar Release date and Price
On top of that it should also receive bigger brakes both in the front and back as well as slight changes inside and out. This high performance model is likely going to be released some time in the mid of 2016 while the production vehicle will be ready by the end of the year. Pricing wise, it is safe to assume that the Polestar version of the XC90 is going to cost well over $70,000 which still is a fair price considering it is one of the better cars in its class.
Volvo XC90 Polestar Exterior
Let’s start this small preview with the exterior of the 2017 Volvo XC90 Polestar. While it has not been made available to the public just yet, the car will very likely take the same route as all the other Polestar vehicles.
This means it will get a new blue color which will be offered as standard, new lightweight wheels and high performance tires as well as a very subtle body kit which will perfectly blend with the car’s looks. A quad-exhaust system might be installed on the XC90 while in the front it will certainly receive a new set of headlights.
Interior of XC90 Polestar
Inside the cabin things are also going to be improved slightly from the previous model. Firstly, there is going to be a higher equipment level even on the base version of the Polestar edition which will include most of the usual extras as standard. In the center console the car will continue to rock that great massive touch-screen control center which this time might get a new interface to fit the car’s high performance theme.
Volvo XC90 Polestar Engine
Under the hood of the 2017 Volvo XC90 Polestar there might be installed two completely different engines. Firstly, the base model of the car will likely make use of the same 2 liter twin-charged inline 4 petrol engine from the T6 model but this time it will be further upgraded to around 360 horsepower and more than 320 lb-ft of torque.
This should make for a nice increase in performance and it should also provide a much better sound thanks to the new exhaust system fitted to the car. The top of the range Polestar edition though is going to make use of the hybrid powertrain of the XC90 which is going to be further upgraded to as much as 450 horsepower and more than 500 lb-ft of torque which is more than some of its competitors.
The only transmission of choice will remain the 8 speed automatic but this time it will be tweaked in order to be able to handle the extra power from the engines. The hybrid model will be the top performer with a 0 to 60 MPH time of less than 5 seconds and a fuel consumption better than 25 MPG on average.
