The F-Type has been released a while ago and even though it is not the fastest or the most powerful car in its class, it managed to steal the hearts of many people thanks to its gorgeous looks and really impressive sound note. In order to make it an even better car and offer their customers something with a lot of character, they launched the all new 2017 Jaguar F-Type SVR a while ago and just like the name suggests, the car is actually the high performance version of the high performance version of the car.
This specially prepared vehicle comes with a tweaked running gear, a lot of aerodynamic improvements and a specifically tuned engine.
2017 Jaguar F-Type SVR Price
The price for the Coupe version starts at just under $127,000 while the Convertible is around $3,000 more which is still quite good considering that the closest competitor from Porsche is more than $40,000 more.
Just like with the regular car, and the best part about the SVR, the car is available in either a coupe or convertible form, so it will please pretty much anyone. The base SVR is 55 pounds lighter than the usual model thanks to an Inconel exhaust which allows them to shed that much weight while improving the gas flow.
Also, as an option Jaguar will throw in a $12,000 set of carbon ceramic disc brakes coupled with a set of forged aluminum wheels which shed another 30 pounds.
The coupe is also available with a carbon-fiber roof while the convertible gets carbon-fiber rollover bars so both cars will end up being around 110 pounds lighter than the base models.
This is quite impressive by its own but the fact is that the 2017 Jaguar F-Type SVR also comes with a much more efficient aerodynamic package with a venturi tunnel in the back, a large splitter on the front bumper, larger air intakes in the front and on the hood which are meant to allow the engine to breathe easier as well as a fixed rear wing.
These give the car an extra 15% of downforce without adding any significant drag. The exterior also gets new wheels that are unique to the SVR and while the carbon ceramic brakes are an option, the base car also gets larger steel brakes which should resist higher temperatures for longer.
Interior of Jaguar F-Type SVR
Inside the cabin, the SVR version is nearly identical to that of the usual R and we’re happy to report this because Jaguar did not take Porsche’s route of offering the car with little to no equipment inside the cabin.
The seats are very comfortable, the materials are great and there are plenty of features such as satellite navigation, cruise control, climate control and even a surround audio system.
Jaguar F-Type SVR Engine
Under the hood, both models of the 2017 Jaguar F-Type SVR are hiding a 5 liter supercharged V8 petrol engine which this time around makes an impressive 575 horsepower and 516 lb-ft of torque mostly thanks to the larger intercoolers and the car’s extra air intakes on the hood.
The engine is mated to the same 8 speed automatic gearbox as before but it has been tuned to offer a faster change. This means that the official 0 to 60 MPH time is now 3.5 seconds while the Coupe’s limited top speed is 200 MPH.
The Convertible has been limited to only 195 MPH due to its cloth roof. Both cars had to be limited in order to meet the safety requirements of their tires.
While the official numbers say that the car will get to 60 MPH in 3.5 seconds, a stock R has been clocked to 60 MPH in just 3.4 seconds so it is safe to assume that the SVR will get closer to 3 seconds which would be mighty impressive for a car under $200,000.
