The Chrysler 200 has been voted as one of the best looking cars in its class but despite that there are cars such as the Malibu or the Mazda 6 that outsell it by a 4 to 1 ratio which is really bad for the company.
2017 Chrysler 200 Review
Not too long ago they released a statement which said that they think the biggest culprit of the really bad sales are the rear doors which are quite narrow and don’t allow people in the back to get in and out of the car with ease. However, on top of that we also think that the car’s lackluster chassis or the uninspired engines can be blamed for the rear dull sales.
In order to change that and make the car a better all around vehicle, a new model has been rumored ever since the end of 2015. The upcoming 2017 Chrysler 200 is expected to be a major upgrade over the current model which would be a bit unusual considering that it has been on the market for little over two years.
The new model will still use the same chassis that can be found in the Dart but this time around the running gear is expected to get better shocks and springs that will keep the ride quality without removing all the feedback from the road. On top of that, the engine options will certainly receive a few updates while the actual design of the car is expected to change completely.
This means that the 2017 Chrysler 200 will not offer the same sloped back roof as the current model which does give it a nice design but it also makes life for the rear passengers quite a bit harder than normal.
This time around, the car is expected to get some of the design found on the Giulia or even the Dart, meaning that it will offer a more conventional design where the rear doors will offer plenty of room for any type of passengers.
Also, its front fascia is expected to change completely in order to complete the design of the car that will now look like a totally different model.
Interior of 2017 Chrysler 200
Inside the cabin things should be pretty similar to the exterior and we actually do not expect any parts of the older model on the new car. It should come with a new dashboard design, new seats that will offer a better driving posture as well as more room for the rear passengers.
In terms of safety and features, the car will be similar to the current model but some safety options such as the rear cross-traffic alert are now going to be offered as standard.
Chrysler 200 Engine
Under the hood of the 2017 Chrysler 200 should retain the two current engines with a possible addition of a third one. The base model will continue to use the same 2.4 liter naturally aspirated inline 4 as before, engine which can make up to 184 horsepower and 173 lb-ft of torque.
The top of the range model will retain the 3.6 liter naturally aspirated V6 which will certainly remain one of the most powerful offerings in its class at nearly 300 horsepower and over 260 lb-ft of torque. Front wheel drive will be offered as standard together with a 9 speed automatic gearbox while as an extra, an all wheel drive system will also be available.
Some rumors also suggested that in the near future a higher performance version of the car could be released on the market with an all wheel drive 3 liter twin-turbocharged V6 model with closer to 400 horsepower and 400 lb-ft of torque but this hasn’t been officially confirmed just yet.
