Released little over four years ago, the small Alpha-based sedan became one of Cadillac’s best selling cars ever made and one of the best cars in its class. In fact, the ATS is the first US-made sedan that managed to compete with the BMW 3 Series, Audi A4 and the Mercedes C Class without having to compromise on anything. In order to keep the high standard set by the ongoing model, the new ATS will get quite a few upgrades, most of them to its running gear and powertrains. These should make it faster, more efficient and even better to drive than before.
Even though it doesn’t seem like much, the new 2017 Cadillac ATS will certainly become one of the best cars in its class and this time around it may even be better than its European competitors.
The chassis will be the same Alpha-based platform as before but this time around the car may receive some carbon fiber or aluminum reinforcements in key areas in order to improve the car’s torsional rigidity.
On top of that, the braking system is expected to be completely overhauled and this time around, at least for the top end model, a carbon-ceramic system might become available as an option.
2017 Cadillac ATS Price
The price will still start at roughly $34,000 but the top end version will now go quite a bit further than before due to the added upgrades.
Design wise not much is going to change for the 2017 Cadillac ATS but we still do expect a mild update that will make the car fit Cadillac’s current car roster a bit better. A new set of headlights, a slightly more aggressive grille, a new front bumper as well as a new set of tail lights are likely going to find their way on the new model.
Also, the car will receive an entirely new trim level with the V-Sport version which will receive the running gear of the ATS-V but it will not get the same body-kit. Instead, the V-Sport will still look like a regular model with new wheels and a slightly more aggressive body-kit than standard.
Interior of Cadillac ATS
Inside the cabin, besides the usual upgrades to the materials used, the new ATS is also expected to make use of an entirely new infotainment and navigation unit which will not only be compatible with phone-screen mirroring software but it will also provide a much smoother experience than before.
The V-Sport model will add a new steering wheel as well as similar sport seats to those found in the ATS-V.
Engine of Cadillac ATS 2017
Engine wise, the base 2.5 liter naturally aspirated inline 4 as well as the 2 liter turbocharged mill are going to be carried over on the 2017 Cadillac ATS completely unchanged.
The 3.6 liter naturally aspirated V6 that offers 335 horsepower and 285 lb-ft of torque is also likely going to be carried over as well but this time around this engine is expected to be offered with rear wheel drive only.
This is because Cadillac will offer an entirely new engine option for those looking to get all wheel drive with a higher performance model. This new engine will be their all new 3 liter twin-turbo V6 which is expected to deliver closer to 350 horsepower and over 360 lb-ft of torque, making the previously mentioned V-Sport model.
The top of the range car will still remain the ATS-V and just like before, a 3.6 liter twin-turbo V6 with 464 horsepower and 445 lb-ft of torque. This particular model will only get rear wheel drive but it will come with either a 6 speed manual or an 8 speed automatic, giving it the edge over cars such as the upcoming Audi RS4 or the future BMW M3.
