Even though there have been a few faster cars than it, the Veyron kept its title as the fastest production car in the World because it was the only one made in high enough numbers. Well, because its record was starting to shake a bit and also the car was on the market for nearly a decade, Bugatti had to do a lot of thinking in order to come up with a successor for the fastest car in the World.
The result? The 2017 Bugatti Chiron is more powerful and luxurious, faster, better looking and it is also arguably one of the meanest looking man-made machines in the World.
Price for Bugatti Chiron
Its price is just as impressive as its looks. Bugatti is already taking orders for the Chiron and the base price for one starts at nearly $2,7 million which is quite a bit more than pretty much any other car on the market.
While you may think that Bugatti would have a hard time selling all these cars, they already received orders for more than 170 from the total of 500 units which are going to be made and it seems that these sold models are the base cars. Further down the road Bugatti is also going to build special versions for the Chiron such as the SuperSports, Grand Vitesse and even bespoke built cars.
Unlike what many people thought, the 2017 Bugatti Chiron is not an entirely new car. In fact we can look at it more like at an evolution of the Veyron. The two share the same wheelbase but the Chiron comes with a stiffer carbon fiber chassis.
On top of that it is noticeably longer, wider and taller as well. This not only means that there is quite a bit more room inside the cabin but the car also has more room for engine coolers, luggage and it allows Bugatti more space to work around different components and make them more durable.
One of the most impressive things about a Bugatti has always been the way it look at the Chiron makes no exception. It is sharper-looking than the Veyron but it also comes with a curvier body which now has hidden intakes and vents in order not to disturb the general design of the car.
The wheels on the base model are straight from the Gran Turismo concept while the four-LED clusters headlights make the Chiron look like a really mean machine. The materials inside the cabin are among the best you will ever see in a car.
Each button has been made out of aluminum or titanium in order to feel premium, the leather is the best you will find in a car while the equipment level, even though mostly hidden in order to keep the flowing design unfazed, is the equivalent to a luxury sedan.
Let’s now move to the most impressive feature of the 2017 Bugatti Chiron, its engine. The 8 liter quad-turbocharged W16 petrol engine from the Veyron has been heavily redesigned with new turbochargers, a more efficient injection system, a new exhaust system, more heat-exchangers in order to keep it cool as well as more durable materials.
The end result? Well, the Chiron makes a staggering 1,479 horsepower and 1,180 lb-ft of torque, 300 more than the Veyron SS. The engine is then mated to a strengthened Ricardo seven-speed automatic gearbox which drives all four wheels.
The end result is a 4,400+ pounds car which will accelerate to 60 MPH in less than 2.5 seconds, hit 186 MPH in 13.6 seconds and it is limited to 261 MPH.
Rumors say that when they will delimit the car in order to set a new speed record, the Chiron will get quite close to 280 MPH or more which would be, by far, the fastest speed any production car has ever gone.
