The Fortuner is a mid to full size SUV sold by Toyota in select markets. While its name may not seem much for some people, it is in fact one of the best selling SUVs in India and Thailand thanks to its legendary ruggedness thanks to the fact that it is in fact a car based on the Hilux.
2016 Toyota Fortuner Review
On top of that it is also quite cheap to buy unlike many other European or American made cars. The 2016 Toyota Fortuner is going to be a massive upgrade over the previous model and even though it will share its name with the current generation, it will have absolutely nothing in common with it, not even its engines.
It will still be a body on frame type of construction, so the new model should be able to tow just as much as before and it should easily be able to handle any type of terrain out there.
However, besides this the car is going to be all new. It will get a lighter and stronger body than before, new engines as well as a new running gear which will allow it to take a lot more punishment than before.
2016 Toyota Fortuner Release date and Price
The release date has been set in the first quarter of 2016 while the production model will be ready by the mid of 2016 when it will hit the market for roughly the same price as the current generation.
Toyota Fortuner Under the hood
Under the hood of the new Fortuner we are going to see 2 new engines. The base is going to be a new naturally aspirated 2.7 liter inline 4 which is going to develop up to 150 horsepower and 240 N*m of torque, just enough to make the car move quite nicely.
The better engine will be the 2.4 liter diesel which is going to be able to provide as much as 160 horsepower and 340 N*m of torque, allowing the Fortuner to tow more than 3000 kilograms with ease. All of these are going to be possible thanks to the massively powerful engines as well as its new 6 speed manual gearbox or the 6 speed automatic.
Exterior of 2016 Toyota Fortuner
While the exterior of the car has yet to be confirmed by Toyota, there have been a few leaks which show a 2016 Toyota Fortuner without camouflage and we must say that the end result is a lot better than expected.
In fact, the new Fortuner does seem to borrow a few design elements from the new Hilux as well as from the American 4Runner.
Toyota Fortuner 2016 Interior
The interior of the car on the other hand is unknown for which is a shame but to be expected considering the car is more than a full year away from its release.
