Porche’s mid-size luxury crossover has recently gone through a facelift process and 2016 Porsche Cayenne is bound to arrive soon. This rather vast lineup offers pretty much everything one could want; from base petrol and diesel options, over hybrid versions, to sporty supercharged, high-performance models.
2016 Porsche Cayenne Engine
Couple of base engines are 3.6L V6 petrol and diesel options, former of which puts up 300 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque, and latter one giving 240 hp and 406 lb-ft of torque. Cayenne S is next in line and it packs upgraded version of the V6 which makes 420 hp and 406 lb-ft of torque. S E-Hybrid combines 3.0L V6 internal-combustion unit with 95-horsepower electric motor for combined output of 416 hp and 435 lb-ft of torque.
Upper echelon is lead by GTS model which incorporates the most potent version of base V6 engine that delivers 440 hp and 442.5 lb-ft of torque.
Finally, Cayenne Turbo and Turbo S models up the ante with 4.8L V8 mill which is capable of developing 520 hp and 553 lb-ft of torque in former, and 570 hp and 590 lb-ft of torque in latter version. All models are offered with all-wheel drive and 8-speed Tiptronic S automatic transmission.
Exterior of Porsche Cayenne 2016
Even though slightly redesigned, 2016 Porsche Cayenne still looks the same. Inverted grille and revised headlights don’t really change it too much, and rear end offers similar tweaks in tail-light and tailgate department.
However, most of Cayenne’s lines now stretch horizontally instead of vertically and it has to be mentioned that new configuration suits Porsche’s trademark design better than the old one.
Porsche Cayenne Interior
Interior refinement remains unchanged. All Cayenne’s offer top quality surfaces with lots of leather and accents. Design remains unchanged as well and long, heavy dashboard still offers lot of room for storage, and some sturdy middle tunnel as well. The tunnel divides the cabin in two parts and fits all the controls upon it so that none of them can be seen on the dash. It actually serves as a horizontal instrument panel with shifter and all center stack features combined upon it as well, while above it sits touch screen display which controls most of vehicle’s systems.
However refined Cayenne is, it still isn’t quite space-efficient as its buyers would presume. It is a family car, but, yet again, it isn’t. Apart from some advanced tech features like dual-screen rear-seat entertainment system and basic Bose or optional Burmester audio systems, 2016 Porsche Cayenne can boast with plenty of advanced safety systems as well. These include adaptive cruise control, lane change assist and blind-spot monitors among others.
Base models are rated at 19 mpg combined, while diesel model raises the bar to 19/29 mpg. In fact, diesel option is more fuel-efficient than hybrid model which is rated at 20/24 mpg, but latter one delivers better acceleration. Speaking of performance, S models return 18 mpg combined, while turbo lowers the figures even more.
Price for new Porsche Cayenne
All models are available for prices between $58,500 and $157,500, which is the tag of Turbo S model.
2016 Porsche Cayenne is one of the fastest and most lavishly decorated crossovers out there and it comes as no surprise given German maker’s reputation. However, it can become quite expensive with stronger powertrains, and even base models aren’t exactly affordable.
