Since the company already showcased the track-focused Cayman GT4 and 911 GT RS at the Geneva Motor Show, the 2015 New York Auto Show was used for presentation of the new Boxster Spyder. After four years the car came back as the most powerful and quickest Boxster with very impressive exterior and interior look.
2016 Porsche Boxster Spyder exterior design
Exterior wise, the recognizable design of the initial Boxster Spyder was carried over for the new 2016 Boxster Spyder, which means this model also has two flying buttresses built behind the seats. To add the lightness to the new Spyder the company used manually operated top.
To become more special then its siblings, the Boxster has the racy front and rear fascia, which is borrowed from the Cayman GT4, while air intakes are larger and apron has a new splitter. The other thing borrowed from the Cayman GT4 is a slim air dam set in front of the forward luggage compartment.
Around back, between the taillights, there is a little bit larger spoiler and a ’’Spyder“ logo is set below the usual ’’Porsche“ lettering.
As far as the outside look, the new 2016 Porche Boxster Spyder is a nice combination of the Boxster, the 718 Spyder and the Cayman GT4.
Porsche Boxster interior design
If you like the outside of this model, you will be even more trilled with its inside design. As the exterior, the interior is equally unique with making a special focus on driving pleasure and lightness. In this model the sport seats come as standard and it also has a new steering wheel and it is 0,4-inch smaller in diameter than the previous one.
Like a race car, the radio and the air conditioning are not the part of the interior equipment, but they can be ordered as a no-cost option.
The rest of the interior is pretty much the standard Boxster except the cloth loops which will replace the tradicional door handles.
Maybe it seems that the interior is a little bit minimalistic, but the company offers the entire range of Boxster audio system and a PCM system with navigation. Just check the boxes on the options list and pay the premium.
Engine of Porsche Boxster Spyder
As the Cayman GT4, the 2016 Boxster Spyder borrows the 911 Carrera S’ 3,8-liter flat-six engine wich produces 400 hp in the 911 and 385 hp in the GT4, while for the Spyder the powerplant has been detuned to 375 hp.
Beside this mild drop, the Spyder is the most powerful Boxster and with only 4,3 seconds to score 60 mph from a standing start, this model is also the quickest. The biggest news is that Porsche decided to offer the Spyder with a six-speed manual, but the bad news is that there won’t be PDK, not even as an option.
Some other features are brakes taken from the 911 Carrera S, more direct steering and a firmer sport suspension with a 0,8-inch lower ride height. Also, we have to emphasize the fact that the Spyder is the lightest model of the current Boxster line and that is the huge plus for this model.
2016 Porsche Boxster Spyder Price
The 2016 Porsche Boxster Spyder comes for sale in October this year. The price starts from $82,100 and it’s only $2,500 cheaper than the Cayman GT4, so that means this car is the most expensive model of the Boxster family.
