The original Trailblazer has been one of the first real crossovers on the US market but it has been discontinued back in 2009. In 2012 on the other hand a model with the same name has been released in a few countries in Asia as well as in the South American countries, a car which has nothing in common with the original. With the 2016 Chevy Trailblazer there are plans to bring the car back to the US but as far as we know, it is going to be a completely different experience over the original.
2016 Chevy Trailblazer Review
In fact, it will most likely be based on the same crossover which is currently on sale in those markets, a car designed originally in Australia. The American version will bring quite a big list of changes over the usual model, changes which we are going to check now.
Chevy Trailblazer Engine
Engine wise, the 2.8 liter turbocharged Duramax engine is going to be kept on this model as well, but it won’t be offered as the top of the range engine. In fact, the base engine is likely going to be a 3.6 liter naturally aspirated V6 offering around 280 horsepower and 270 lb-ft of torque, less than the original but more than enough for a medium size crossover.
The diesel will offer 200 horsepower and more than 360 lb-ft of torque and a fuel economy of at least 27 MPG which for a car this size is quite good. It will come as standard with rear wheel drive but all wheel drive is going to be available as an option. In terms of gearbox, an 8 speed automatic is the most obvious choice for GM.
Interior of 2016 Trailblazer
On the interior, the 2016 Chevy Trailblazer is most likely going to be better suited for the US market than the 2012 model. We expect quite a nice equipment level with a standard infotainment system, premium cloth upholstery, electric seats, windows and mirrors, a rear view camera and on select models or as options, satellite navigation, cruise control, leather upholstery and even ventilated seats on the top end models.
Its exterior on the other hand won’t change as much as the exterior. The front end is likely going to be carried over from the International model but the back of the car and the wheels are going to be unique to it. In fact, LED tail lights and a dual exhaust system are expected while the wheels are likely going to be light alloy coupled to road tires rather than the usual all terrain ones.
Price for new 2016 Chevy Trailblazer
The price is likely going to be a step lower than the car it is based on, so we would expect less than $30,000 considering it is an entry level model. The release date hasn’t been set just yet but it is safe to assume that the car will come on the US market by the end of 2016.
