The Malibu is GM’s top of the range model for the Chevrolet marque. However, in the recent years it wasn’t really up on par with the rest of its competitors and because of that sales fell short. However, they are going to release a new model with the 2016 Chevrolet Malibu which is going to ride on a new platform and that is going to offer better engines and a much nicer package than before.
The styling and the interior will change in order to offer a more premium car than before. However, GM didn’t release much information about their new Malibu just yet but considering the spy shots and the prototype specs, we can safely assume that the new model will ride on an improved version of the Epsilon II platform. This could mean that for the first time in a few years the Malibu might be available with all wheel drive.
2016 Chevrolet Malibu engine
Engine wise Chevrolet announced that the Malibu will offer a similar engine choice to the older generation. This means that the base will probably get the same 2.5 liter inline 4 with 200 horsepower as before while the more premium car will get the 2 liter turbocharged inline 4 with 260 horsepower and almost 300 lb-ft of torque.
A new entry would be the 1.5 liter turbocharged inline 4 which is likely to replace the old hybrid version. This will offer a similar power level at nearly 170 horsepower and similar fuel efficiency as well with more than 30 MPG on average. A 6 speed manual is likely to be offered as standard while a 6 speed automatic will be offered as an option on certain engines.
The interior of the 2016 Chevrolet Malibu will change in order to offer a more complete package. The quality of the materials will rise while the layout will improve. It will also receive new features such as 4G LTE connectivity or even Wi-Fi on the higher end models. Dual zone automatic climate control will be offered as standard while a choice between leather and cloth will be available for the upholstery.
Unfortunately we can’t say much about its exterior but we do know the car will grow in size. The roof will have a similar curve to that of a coupe while the doors will get a nice arch which is usually found on the shooting brake cars.
Release date and Price for new Chevrolet Malibu 2016
The release date hasn’t been announced just yet but considering GM is preparing an event in the late 2015 to release some of their models, the Malibu might be one of them. The price for the car should remain similar to that of the previous generation, meaning that $24,000 shouldn’t be out of the question for the base model.
On Wednesday 1st April at the Auto Show in New York, Chevrolet has unveiled a brand new 2016 Chevrolet Malibu.
