Cruze might not be the most prolific car from Chevy’s lineup, but it manages to conjure up respectable sales numbers thanks to its affordable nature. Compact sedan will finally shift generations and 2016 Chevrolet Cruze will be refreshed.
2016 Chevrolet Cruze Review
One of compact sedan’s biggest advantages is a colorful powertrain offer. It comes with three different engines, one of which is oil burner, no less. 2.0L turbo diesel 4-cylinder is able to put up 151 hp and hefty 264 lb-ft of torque.
On the other hand, petrol engines are slightly smaller. 1.4L turbocharged 4-cylinder should also carry over and develop as much as 138 hp and 148 lb-ft of torque. Finally, it’s still uncertain whether 1.8L 4-cylinder with 138 hp and 125 lb-ft of torque will carry over or whether bowtie brand will use Chinese market-designed 1.5L 4-cylinder developing even less, but returning better fuel economy figures as a result. As far as transmission options go, whether 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic should be enough, but top grades will also offer 7-speed dual-clutch automatic options.
New Cruze gets revised frontal fascia to begin with. Chevy’s signature grille is now larger and wider, but that’s not everything there’s to it. Headlamps are more laid-back, and hood itself is more toned down; plus it exhibits different creases. Midsection creases are different as well, while rear end gets some new tail-lights, revised bumper and new overhang. All in all, it seems that next-gen car looks slightly better, especially thanks to its front end redesign.
There’s no saying what awaits us inside, but we would guess that completely revised cabin is the only thing that could happen. Apart from new, more modern materials, expect entirely new dashboard layout. Still, don’t expect more than a few upgrades when it comes to available features.
Most of available models will still offer cloth seats, but upscale versions will come with Meridian leather-appointed seats as before. Touch screen display, 4G LTE connectivity, Siri Eyes Free and navigation, all come with upgraded infotainment system.
2016 Chevrolet Cruze exhibits solid safety feature list too. Apart from mandatory airbags (and there’s 10 of these in Cruze), anti-lock brakes and stability control, Chevy’s compact sedan offers a rearview camera, blind spot monitors, rear cross-traffic alert and rear park assist.
Cruze is generally quite efficient, and new generation should only build upon previous one’s figures. Smallest, 1.4L engines manage to generate up to 30 mpg combined and new 1.5L models should fit in the same region. Turbo diesel engine is even better and it can deliver over 40 mpg on the highway with ease. Another Cruze’s advantage is its affordable nature.
Price for new Chevrolet Cruze 2016
It costs a little bit more than $16,000 in its base form, while top models require more than $25,000. Expect these figures to rise slightly when new generation models arrive.
2016 Chevrolet Cruze will certainly be more attractive, just as it is the case with almost all new Chevy’s models. Apart from offering updated styling, compact sedan will offer some changes in powertrain department, but it should still come with most interesting options in the market for its niche.
