The current flagship in the Buick car range is the LaCrosse, a car based on a modular platform developed in Europe for the European market. While the car was released back in 2010 and refreshed in 2014, it will actually receive a completely new model with the 2016 Buick LaCrosse, a bigger and more luxurious car than before which is going to compete with the likings of the BMW 5 Series or even the Chrysler 300.
2016 Buick LaCrosse Review
While the new model is going to receive a new platform, this is not the only change GM is going to bring to the table.
We expect the new model to receive a set of new engines, a new price tag as well as a bolder exterior. The E2XX platform is going to allow GM and Buick to make the car more versatile, so in theory they might offer the car in two different trims, a comfort one with a comfort set suspension and running gear as well as a high performance version with a sport tuned running gear. In both cases though, the car is going to be a Buick, so luxury and comfort are going to be a standard feature.
2016 Buick LaCrosse Release date and Price
The release date for the new model has been said to be at the end of 2016 while the base price should be around $34.000 so almost 2000 dollars more than before and quite a bit more than the competition. This is mostly because it will also offer more than what the competition is offering with a very equipped interior in the standard trim.
Interior of Buick LaCrosse
This is going to include ventilated and heated seats, both in the front and back, a satellite navigation system with an infotainment unit which is now going to have two LCD screens in the headrests as well as a premium audio system. The leather upholstery is going to be standard but the aluminum trimmings or even the privacy glass is only going to be available as an option.
Buick LaCrosse 2016 Exterior
On the exterior, the 2016 Buick LaCrosse will change quite a bit over the current model. There isn’t any official information about it just yet but there are a few spy shots of the car which show a bigger, wider and lower car.
Considering its dimensions, we can now say without a doubt that this will be the Buick flagship. In the front, the hood is longer while the roof has a nice curve to it which does resemble that of a coupe.
Engine of Buick LaCrosse
Engine wise, the 2016 Buick LaCrosse is going to mix the old and new technology together. The current 3.6 V6 with 305 horsepower is likely to stay as the top end engine. However, all the other offerings are going to be changed. The base 2.4 liter unit is likely to be changed to a 1.6 liter turbocharged inline 4 coupled to an electric motor.
This should provide around 190 horsepower and 250 lb-ft of torque which is a lot more than before. The fuel consumption will also improve with an expected average of more than 30 MPG. While the previous model only had two engines, this newer model might also see the introduction of a new 2 liter turbocharged engine as a mid-range offering. This will provide 240 horsepower and 270 lb-ft of torque and it should be only marginally more expensive than the base 1.6 liter unit.
All of these are going to be offered as standard with front wheel drive and GM’s new 9 speed automatic gearbox which has been co-developed with Ford. A four wheel drive system should be available as an option and only with the V6 and the 2 liter engines. These two will also receive torque vectoring which should be a major improvements in terms of car behavior.
