The 7-Series has always been BMW’s flagship and since its introduction, it always had the newest technology fitted to it. However, the current model is quite old and even though it received a facelift a few years back, the car’s platform is the oldest in the range today.

Because of this BMW is going to release a new version of the car by the end of the year with the 2016 BMW 7-Series which is going to be more of a technical upgrade than anything else.

In fact, the car’s look will remain mostly unchanged with only minor differences to it but the underpinnings are going to be completely new. In fact, this new car is going to sit on BMW’s new modular platform called the 35up which will allow them to get the weight of the car down by at least 450 pounds with the help of more aluminum, high strength steel and carbon fiber used in the car.

Price for BMW 7-Series

Just as you would expect though, the price of the car is likely to go up and because this isn’t exactly a cheap car, it could mean that BMW is targeting a more premium class. The base price is likely going to be around $80,000 which is almost 10% higher than before. The top of the range model on the other hand will cost in excess of $170,000, making for one of the most expensive cars BMW ever built so far.

BMW 7 Engine

In terms of engines, the new generation of the 7-Series is going to bring to the table a combination of old and new technology. The base is likely going to get a 2 liter turbocharged inline 4 with as much as 260 horsepower. A 6 cylinder will also be available on the 740i while the 750i model is likely going to get a 4.4 liter twin-turbo V8 with more than 600 horsepower which will also act as the top of the range in terms of performance.

This model will also be available with an M Package with a different kind of suspension and a lot more exterior trimmings. The luxury model will share its 6.6 liter V12 with the Ghost and it will only be available in long-wheel base form.

On the inside, the 2016 BMW 7-Series is likely going to feature a lot of new technology which it will share with its Rolls Royce counterpart. In fact, we expect this new model to get things such as active cruise control that will not only keep the car at a set speed, but it will also keep the lanes, so it will basically drive itself. On top of that, the car will receive an active sonar system that will avoid low-speed crashes while the passengers are going to enjoy massage seats and integrated air conditioning in them.
