When it comes to luxury cars there are few other manufacturers out there who know better than Acura, the luxury brand of Honda. However, their latest generation of the ILX wasn’t on par with the rest of the cars in its class mostly because Acura wanted the car to be affordable, fast and comfortable, so the end result was a sportier car than it should. The new 2016 Acura ILX though is a whole new car with an improved ride quality, a better engine as well as a lot of improvements made on the inside.
2016 Acura ILX Review
However, don’t expect too much from it when it comes to raw performance because it isn’t a fast car by any means. It is a very comfortable one and even though at its base price of $29,000 there aren’t many other choices in terms of power and comfort, the ILX manages to combine all of those things into a great package. While the car has been released on the market, it isn’t widely available just yet, with an expected full release by the mid of 2015.
Engine of Acura ILX
Engine wise, the people from Acura wanted to get away from the old noisy 2 liter engine in the favor of a 2.4 liter naturally aspirated inline 4 which has both variable valve timing and direct injection. Thanks to that, it is able to provide up to 201 horsepower which is more than enough for such a small car and when you take into account that it now comes with an 8 speed dual clutch automatic, the package seems to be all that better.
Just as you would expect, the performance of the car increased, so it is now able to get to 60 MPH almost 2 seconds faster than before while maintaining a maximum top speed of over 134 MPH. The best part about this new engine though is the fact that it is capable of achieving more than 27 MPG on average with ease!
Acura ILX 2016 Interior
On the interior, Acura worked tremendously in order to make the car more viable for people wanting a luxury saloon, so it now has more interior equipment even in the base trim. Things such as leather upholstery, a great infotainment system as well as the electric seats are all standards. On the higher end model, the buyer can even choose a sunroof as well as a few other extras such as satellite navigation or a Bose audio system.
The exterior of the 2016 Acura ILX also evolved in a great direction, in our opinion, with the car looking more mature as well as more stylish. The front end now has the usual prism LED headlights with the very subtle grille while at the back there is a tiny diffuser which helps the fuel economy of the car at highway speeds.
