Everyone knew that Cascada is going to be presented at this year’s Detroit Auto Show, but not many people expected and less even knew what Buick brand planned as a surprise. They unveiled a flagship sedan concept which looks stunning and, as its name suggests, offers a preview of future for the badge. 2015 Buick Avenir (future in French) is mostly a preview of future LaCrosse, but smaller Regal and Verano are included in the story as well.
2015 Buick Avenir Concept
Pwertrain details are still sketchy at best. Avenir comes with V6 engine, all-wheel drive and 9-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters. This is just another proof that concept wasn’t designed for a specific model, but general lineup instead.
It is expected that even some Cadillacs might adopt some of its cues since it is built upon the same Omega platform which will be used for the new CT6.
Did we say that 2015 Buick Avenir looks stunning? We did, huh? Well, here it goes again. Flagship sedan pays meticulous attention to detail with all of its cues and creases. Waterfall grille now has a bonus horizontal stripe and Buick ironmark in its middle. One might say that front end fascia resembles that of Mazda 6, but it’s slightly wider and lower.
In any case, it is a compliment. Avenir looks even better from the profile, and just above the rear fender, it executes quite pronounced sill which stretches all the way to the tail-light finish. Roof also falls all the way down and carries over to the tailgate. This is the only part of a car which doesn’t look production-friendly as it would take away too much headroom in rear row of seats; not a good way to market a full-size car.
Contemporary cabin is kept minimalistic, just like it is the case with most of concepts these days. However, it might be produced with few additions, and it looks breathtaking. Slim dashboard transforms into big “T” thanks to the middle tunnel, coated in wood, which houses a shifter and few controls.
Next-gen, 12-inch touch screen display sits where T’s lines connect and offers the command over most of advanced technology systems like 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot, for instance. Needless to say, leather seats and metallic accents complete the picture which we wouldn’t mind seeing in production.
Whether 2015 Buick Avenir is just a preview of future or something else, it will depend heavily upon Chinese market where Buick brand really settled well.
People in China still respect full-size flagship sedans, a trend which is slightly losing its edge in Europe or U.S. for that matter, where buyers now mostly cling to crossovers for family moving.
Who knows, Avenir might just become a full-time member of a family, sold exclusively in Asia. Whatever is the case, 2015 Buick Avenir concept shows us how big brand Buick used to be and how good they still can be or might become. And, of course, did we mention how stunning it actually is?
